Casino Night has been postponed till next year, 2021 -->
IMPORTANT: The Camp Sunshine will be CLOSED for the 2020 summer session.

Camp Sunshine first opened its doors during the summer of 1970, and has been open every summer for the past 60 years. Yes you read correctly, Camp Sunshine will be celebrating it’s 60th Anniversary this summer.

As most are aware, in the past few weeks Governor Murphy signed an executive order allowing day camps to open while following strict guidelines. In the weeks since that announcement, very few guidelines and regulations have been released to allow us to adequately prepare to open our doors. The safety of our volunteers, staff, and campers continues to remain our #1 priority. That being said, we regret to announce that Camp Sunshine will be closed for the 2020 season.

Our priority has now shifted and we are doing everything we can, as updated regulations and guidelines become available, to prepare to open in September for the 2020-2021 Camp Snowflake season! We look forward to when we can see our staff, amazing campers, and dedicated volunteers again in person.

Please check back soon as we have some fun plans to continue to celebrate Camp Sunshine's 60th summer in a virtual manner. Just as our camp wouldn't be possible in person without everyone's support, we will need YOUR help to make this VIRTUAL CELEBRATION for 60 YEARS OF CAMP SUNSHINE come to life!

Please don't hesitate to contact us with further questions via email or Facebook. Stay safe and stay healthy!

Sincerely, your Camp Sunshine/Snowflake Administrators

Camp Snowflake Volunteer Information

Camp Snowflake is a similar program to our summer camp, with its reliance on one-to-one attention and its adapted activities. "Snowflake" meets once per week, on Saturday afternoons from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., from September 15, 2018, through May 4, 2019, except for holidays. Volunteers should arrive by 12:45 P.M. Camp Snowflake serves as a recreational and social meeting place for our campers during the school year. Activities include arts & crafts activities, adapted games, and monthly trips to places such the Bronx Zoo, local bowling alleys, movie theaters, Liberty Science Center, Van Saun Zoological Park, and Minor League Baseball Games.

As a volunteer counselor, you will be a friend to one of our campers for the afternoon, sharing their lives and letting them share yours. The biggest and best responsibility of our volunteer counselors is the encouragement they can offer our campers and the patience to listen to and understand their ideas. All you need to be an effective counselor is your enthusiasm to try something new and to meet new people who will bring as much joy to your life as you will to theirs.

New Volunteers

New volunteers should plan to arrive by 12:30 P.M. on their first day. You can speak to any one of the Snowflake Staff members who will gladly give you an orientation to the program. You can download a Volunteer Application and bring it with you on your first day. Be sure to check the News & Events page to see what the activities will be for an upcoming Saturday. Camp Snowflake also frequently hosts groups of volunteers from local schools, churches, and other community service organizations.

Please feel free to contact us to set up group volunteering sessions. We can be reached by Email at contact_us@sunshine-snowflake.org or by phone at 201-652-1755.
